BIO
Trio Turbulences was founded in 2024 as part of a research project at the Haute école de musique de Genève, in collaboration with the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève. The ensemble’s artistic approach is rooted in the study of original printed sources and manuscripts, as well as in historically informed practices of improvisation and composition. For Trio Turbulences, historically informed performance means reconnecting with the figure of the musician-composer-performer of the past. The ensemble therefore approaches historical counterpoint and ornamentation as a living musical language, seeking to remain faithful to the original works while bringing its own distinctive artistic voice to each performance.
The deliberately minimalist combination of voice, cornetto, and lute allows the intimacy and expressive power of the texts to remain at the forefront. The cornetto’s timbre, closely related to that of the human voice, can at times blend seamlessly with it. At the same time, its integration into the lute continuo enables it to move between the role of a melodic instrument and that of a second voice, further enhancing the rhetorical and expressive dimensions of the text.
Trio Turbulences performed at the Laus Polyphoniae Festival in Antwerp as part of the International Young Artist’s Presentation (August 2026), as well as at the Festival de Saintes (July 2026). The ensemble has also collaborated with institutions including the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève (November 2024) and the International Museum of the Reformation (June 2025).
Trio Turbulences has received the Gli Angeli Genève Prize (September 2026), First Prize in the chamber music competition at the FestiVita! Festival in Brussels (February 2026), and the Göttingen Prize at Early Music Vancouver’s Emerging Artist Competition (June 2026).
A concert tour of the Netherlands is already scheduled for November 2026, as part of a season filled with new projects and collaborations.
